Founder

As a third-generation watermen from Hoopers Island, Johnny crabbed and oystered on the Chesapeake for 30 years. Intrigued by the opportunities surrounding aquaculture, he launched Hoopers Island Oyster Company to create a sustainable oyster population and provide a new way forward for Maryland’s Watermen. In 2019 Johnny co-founded Blue Oyster Environmental to accelerate the growth of oyster aquaculture and the health of the Chesapeake Bay.  In addition to BOE & HIOC, Johnny serves on Maryland’s Agriculture Commission and MD’s Oyster Advisory Commission.

Jordan Shockley

Jordan Shockley

Chief Executive Officer

Inspired by generations of watermen – and motivated to help restore the Chesapeake Bay in his career – Jordan spent summers at the University of Maryland’s Horn Point Laboratory. Working side by side with scientists, he learned to spawn and raise oysters while earning a biology degree from Salisbury University. Prior to starting BOE, Jordan held a variety of positions including Nursery Manager and Oyster Production Manager for Hoopers Island Oyster Company. As CEO, he oversees daily operations, including credit aggregation and grow out operations.

Greg Geesaman

Greg Geesaman

Impact Manager

Born and raised on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Greg developed a love for the
Chesapeake Bay at a young age. After leaving the Shore to earn a degree in Marine
Science at North Carolina State University, he returned to start his professional
career revitalizing the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Greg spent several years
working as an Environmental Scientist on large scale transportation and utility
construction projects before joining BOE in February of 2020. As Impact Manager,
Greg handles all aspects of nutrient credit trading and client outreach.

Over the past 20 years, Matt has developed an expertise in the nexus of policy, politics and communications. Advocating for a wide range of issues at the state and federal levels throughout his career. He has developed strong and trusting relationships with some of the leading state and federal elected officials, agency leaders and a wide variety of key stakeholders and decision makers in Washington D.C and beyond. In his role, Matt assists with the development of water quality markets and provides strategic guidance to ensure we are reaching our goals and providing our clients with exceptional service.

Tracy Ward

Tracy Ward

Business Development Manager

Tracy Ward, a seasoned leader with over 30 years of experience in community and economic development, media, and natural resources, is currently engaged in business development for Blue Oyster Environmental.  In 2022, she founded Bluebird Enterprises LLC, providing specialized services for business, non profits, and municipalities committed to positive change.  Tracy’s expertise includes strategic advertisement and business development, with a focus on fostering thriving communities.  As the inaugural Executive Director of the Easton Economic Development Corporation, she successfully executed a redevelopment master plan, attracting investments to Easton, MD.  Tracy’s contributions extend to the Baltimore region, where she published Urbanite and supported community development initiatives.  Additionally, she serves as President of the St. Michael’s Farmers Market, residing in Royal Oak, Maryland, pursuing her passions for gardening, sailing, and travel.

George Kelly

George Kelly

Senior Advisor

George leverages his deep experience in ecosystem markets, environmental finance, and environmental law to advance outcomes-based environmental solutions using market and performance-based tools.  Immediately prior to starting ERP, George served as a managing director at Quantified Ventures, founder at Bespoke Mitigation Partners, an affiliate member of Earth & Water Strategies, and a board member of Blue Oyster Environmental.

From 2014-2019, he was the Chief Market Officer for Resource Environmental Solutions, which had acquired Environmental Banc & Exchange, a firm George founded in 1997. During his term at RES, the company grew to be the largest ecological offset provider in the world and KKR acquired a majority interest in 2016. At RES, George led market initiatives with a focus on expanding the organization’s client base, geographic footprint, and wetland, stream, nutrient, water, and species offset markets. In this capacity, George spearheaded efforts to open nutrient and stormwater markets in the Chesapeake Bay Region; species markets in the Appalachian, Western, and Mid-Western U.S.; stream markets in Texas and the western U.S.; and wetland and stream restoration projects for water quality and carbon markets.

He has worked with numerous resource agencies, landowners, investors, and private and public credit buyers on the implementation of mitigation projects and has promoted new polices at the federal and state levels relating to market-based solutions to achieve environmental objectives.

Megan Shockley

Marketing Director

Megan is Blue Oyster Environmental’s marketing director.  She orchestrates our digital presence, creates social media content, coordinates events & educational programs, and is the primary media liaison.  Megan graduated from Salisbury University with a degree in education.  After spending 8 years in the classroom, she was driven to make a career change to discover new challenges and opportunities while still educating today’s youth.  Born and raised in Maryland, Megan has spent most of her childhood enjoying the Chesapeake Bay and all it has to offer.  She was raised to understand the importance of Bay and wanted to dive into a career that had this at forefront.  Harnessing her background in education and knowledge for marketing, she is committed to elevating our brand and fostering meaningful connections.  Furthermore, it is her passion to educate and provide hands-on-experiences to show the importance of an oyster and all it has to offer to its ecosystem.
